Staple Hill Library, Bristol

An InSites project by artist/writer Mac Dunlop

This sculpture of leaves of paper, was inspired by discussions with Staple Hill Library staff about the Staple Hill Oak, a historic landmark that once marked a meeting place for the local community in nearby Page Park.

These leaves represent pages of shared history, literature and culture, kept alive in places like our local libraries. Places where we can store and share our community’s past, and take that history forward into a common future.

commissioned for the new building by South Gloucestershire
Council in 2007, It is made of powder coated aluminium.
The new Library opened in 2009.
